Who will win Wimbledon 2016?
We have shortlisted the favorite candidates to win the Champioships, Wimbledon, this year:
- Novak Djokovic. He is the current Wimbledon champion, and the first man since Rod Laver to hold the four Grand Slam titles at the same time. He has been the best tennis player during the last few years. As of today, Nole is the main favorite, way over any other player.
- Andy Murray. The world number two has lost the last two Grand Slam finals against Djokovic in Australia and France. The Scottish player excels on grass and has just won a record fifth title at Queens one week before Wimbledon. He has already beaten Djokovic at Wimbledon. In 2013, he won the Championships.
- Roger Federer. The 10 times finalist and 7 times Wimbledon champion has been injured several times this year and had to skip the French Open to recover for Wimbledon. His grass season was not as good as he is used to, with two losses in semifinals in Stuttgart and Halle against young talented players such as Thiem and Zverev. However, Federer reached the finals in the last two editions and he is the best player ever on grass.
- Stanislas Wawrinka. Grass is not his best surface, but the Swiss player is unpredictable and one of the few to be able to win against Djokovic even when the Serb is at his best. He demonstrated it last year at the French Open, and before that at the Australian Open two years ago.
- Milos Raonic. The Canadian has improved a lot, and his strong serve can be very effective on grass. He recently reached the finals at Queens.
- Dominic Thiem. The Austrian player has won at least one title on every surface this year, winning his first grass tournament a few days ago at Stuttgart (defeating Federer in the semifinals). He his young, talented, but has already played more matches this year than any other player on the ATP tour.
- Nick Kyrgios. The Australian is one of the most promising player of the #NextGen, he group of young tennis players who want to be next ATP number one. His strong serve makes him a very effective player on grass.
Some other players (young ones such as Zverev or older ones such as Gasquet or Tsonga) could also have more success than predicted.
