Living together before marriage has pros and cons. Some argue that cohabitation ruins relationships, others that it helps consolidating them. And you?
I love you, you love me. Being in love, what a beautiful feeling! However things may get complicated soon. What do you do next once you start a relationship and you think it works? The big question is: when do you move together? That is not always an easy choice, even if you have the economic means to afford it.
Marriage or cohabitation?
Some people prefer to get married as soon as possible or may suffer social or family pressures to formalize the relationship before they move with their partner. Some researchers suggest that there are health benefits to marriage that simple cohabitation may not provide, Additionally there are also important legal differences between the choice of cohabitation and marriage. In particular when it comes to taxes, inheritance, migration or children. For those with exposed to a religious education or brought up in a traditional or conservative environment living together before marriage is usually considered as a wrong choice.
On the other hand, in many parts of the world it is becoming increasingly common for couples to live together before marriage. This can be a good way to test the strength of a relationship and avoid unpleasant surprises. How can you be sure you really know a person if you have never lived with him or her? Recent researcher suggests that the longer the couples wait to make the first serious commitment the larger the chances for marital success. Moreover, most Western countries have enacted laws to protect the rights and minimize the disadvantages of couples that have decided to live together without getting married.
Depending on people's priorities, religion, philosophy of life, social circumstances, cultural environment and even legal framework the choice may vary. Do you think that overall living together before marriage strengthen the relationship?
