Four sitcoms stand out: Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Modern Family. Which of them is the best mockumentary comedy series?

We have already discussed American action-series, adult cartoons, women series, and even the funniest unseen characters in TV. Now we discuss the best mockumentaries. A mockumentary is a type of film or television show in which fictional events are presented in documentary style to create a parody. These productions are often used to analyze or comment on current events and issues by using a fictional setting. They may be either comedic or dramatic in form, although funny mockumentaries are more common. 

Best mockumentary sitcom

In the last few years we have seen a surge of  comedy TV series presented in the form of mockumentaries. Four American comedy mockumentaries stand out in terms of critical and public acclaim:

  • ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (2003-2006 & 2013)   The show follows the fictitious Bluth family, a formerly wealthy and habitually dysfunctional family. It is presented in a continuous format, incorporating handheld camera work, narration, archival photos, and historical footage.

Starring: Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera, Will Arnett

  • THE OFFICE US (2005-2013)  The series depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.

Starring: Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kailing

  • PARKS AND RECREATION (2009-2015)  is an American television sitcom starring Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, a perky, mid-level bureaucrat in the parks department of Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana.

Starring: Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman

  • MODERN FAMILY (2009- Ongoing)  follows the lives of Jay Pritchett and his family, all of whom live in suburban Los Angeles. Pritchett's family includes his second wife, his stepson, and infant son, as well as his two adult children and their spouses and children.

Starring: Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell

It’s good to take risk sometimes. I’ve realized that people who do great exploits are people who take risk. Nothing good comes or happens easily.
