Competitive or cooperative board games?

There is an increasing number of cooperative board games in the market.

Board and card games have historically provided a competitive experience where some players would win and other players lose. Chess, MagicCatan, Agricola, Twilight Struggle, War of the Ring are some examples of competitive games. However, more recently cooperative games have become increasingly popular. In cooperative games, such as The Lord of the Rings, Arkham Horror, Ghost Stories, Pandemics and Zombicide, players work together against the game. Some cooperative games also allow some competition among players by introducing hidden roles and traitors. This is the case of semi-cooperative games such as Battle Star Galactica, Shadows over Camelot and Dead of Winter. The experience of cooperative and competitive games is very different.
