Red wine vs white wine. One goes better with meat, the other with fish, but which one is the healthiest? We debate and vote on these alcoholic drinks.

Health benefits of wine

Drinking wine is a pleasure. No matter if they are Old World or New World, wines are central part of Western civilization and arguably can bring some health benefits to those who consume it with moderation. Some studies show that wine can contribute to your physical health, help you overcome stress and and give you the mental focus to help you overcome illness. But wines can also have a detrimental impact on your health: like other drinks such as beer or spirits, wine contains alcohol that can create liver problems and dependency, its acidity may affect your teeth and its calories make you fat. In fact white and red wines have quite distinct features and can impact in your body in different ways.

To determine which one is the healthiest wine to drink we have to look at small variations in their compositions. Probably the main difference between red and white wine is that red wine contains  an antioxidant called resveratrol which is naturally located in the skin of grapes. But some white wine also have antioxidants (tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol) which effect on health is similar to resveratol. And no doubt that the quality of the product or the variety of grapes used can also have a significant impact on health.
