Is Ukraine ready for the EU? Is the EU ready for Ukraine? Here we deliberate about the pros and cons of a possible Ukrainian EU membership.
The recent invasion by Russian troops have brought back the debate on Ukraine membership.
The political transformations and current problems within Ukraine have brought to the political agenda the desirability of an eventual European Union membership for this country. Some analysts warn against dependency on Russia and argue that Ukraine should get closer to the West and join the EU, for economic and geostrategic reasons. The Russian annexation of Crimea and their support to the separatist rebels in Eastern Ukraine is increasing the popularity of some of these ideas. However two different type of arguments have been made against a full EU membership.
On the one hand, joining the EU could worsen the already very deteriorated relationships with Russia, Ukraine's traditional major economic partner. On the other hand, there are many doubts about the readiness of Ukranian political institutions to enter the EU. Is Ukraine fit for the EU? Moreover the EU is also undergoing an institutional crisis and its capacity to further enlarge and accomodate a country such as Ukraine has been questioned. If so many are currently questioning the EU why should Ukraine join them?

Ukraine doesn't protect all of Europe from Russia. If Russia wanted to attack Europe, it has missiles, planes and other devices that don't need countries in between to stop them from reaching their targets... Sad also to say that if Ukraine became a failed state and a vassal to Russia, nobody will really care. History is full of such examples unfortunately.
Concerning Europe, it is far from ready to welcome new members... even if theoretically these countries might protect Europe from others... On the contrary, Europe is such in a bad shape politically that it is considering kicking out some of its own members like Greece (also strategically located)... Poor Europe and poor Europeans. All of this because bankers and opportunists are in control of the most important decisions... All Europeans who care should be in the street forcing their politicians to re-orientate the way it is going. Maybe it is not too late.
BG Canada Ukraine also protects all of Europe from Russia. Yes, EU has problems and Ukraine might become a failed state , a vassal to Russia and a danger to Europe. Think about that.
